If you know me you know I love stripes. I've been wanting to paint stripes on the big blank wall in our living room for years. I put up a mural of sorts about 3 years ago (you can see it below) using a template I had created out of contact paper. It was fine for a while...but I have been over it for a couple years now. The ceiling in that room is vaulted so I knew it would be high impact to have stripes go from floor to ceiling, which I believe is about 11 feet at it's highest point.
I had always thought that I would do a black and white stripe treatment, but when I was talking it over with Chris one night he mentioned the idea of doing a gradation of color. That little suggestion was all it took...It was like a spark in my brain....and once I get excited about something there is no stopping me.
I started painting the very next morning.
This was $0 project because we had about 1/2 gallon of charcoal grey paint left over from a previous project and a quart of white paint that I always keep on hand for trim and door touch-ups.
The first stripe, on the bottom, is the original Charcoal paint with no white mixed in. From there I just sort of eyeballed it adding more and more white paint to achieve the gradation...or 'grey-dation' as I like to call it.
It was a fun and easy project that only took me a few hours spread out over a few days. The most time consuming part was having to wait in between stripes for the paint to dry so that I could tape off for the next color. If I would have put the tape on too soon the the paint would have peeled away when I removed the tape.
Ta Da! I'm still working on the gallery grouping, but I like how it makes the light switch and thermostat sort of disappear.
